Vadmalsjacka

  2. Thanks Lars. It´s an old pattern from 1870 that I´ve bought at a museum bur I´ve changed it a lot, made it longer and add pockets, only the sleeves remains from the origin pattern. But I think it could be a nice jacket.

  3. Is the wool knit or woven before it goes to the vadmal? Inset or patch pockets? I'm intrigued;)

  4. It can actually be both but it´s mostly wowen before you take it to the mill. Uther ways to make vadmal is to throw the wet cloth on a cliff several times or lay it under a waterfall. Yes it sounds odd but it´s done in Asia. In Russia they made vadmal for armymclothesmbut the russian army has chosen other fabrics and there for there is a surplus of russian vadmal in Russia wich is sold in Europe. Ans the vadnal i´m using is russian.
And i´m going to sew diagonal inset pockets wich is easier to do with heavy thick fabric then patch pockets.
Its nice that someone is interested in my sewing project :-)

  6. And what is the dirrent between vadmal and felting? in vadmal the fibers are hooked in a 2 dimensional way back and forth and the surface is flat. In felting the fibers are hokked 3 dimensional back and forth and up and down and the surface is fuzzy. And I do hope this make sence.

  7. It does make sense.
Of course I'm interested in your sewing project. I've been neglecting my sewing.
